Antonis Kousoulis is the Deputy Director of Development & Innovation, and member of the Leadership Team, at the Mental Health Foundation, UK’s leading institute for research and policy in public mental health. He is directing the Public Mental Health Programmes Division and the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities.
Previously, he was Deputy Director of Development at CPRD (Clinical Practice Research Datalink), a centre of the MHRA, the executive regulatory agency of the UK Department of Health. At CPRD, as part of the Senior Leadership Group, he headed a team dealing with public health impact translation, stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, considering the feasibility of studies and driving new research opportunities within the Centre.
Antonis qualified in Medicine at the University of Athens, Greece, and undertook postgraduate studies in public health at Imperial College London and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK.
He has been a collaborator of the Clinic of Social Medicine at the University of Crete, Greece, where he led the quantitative review on a whole systems approach for self-management for people with chronic conditions in 6 countries, for WP2 of EU-WISE (research programme funded under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission). He has participated in social medicine research at Harvard School of Public Health University, USA, and University College London, UK, and has been an investigator in various clinical research studies including at the Universities of Liverpool and East Anglia. He has published over 70 papers in national and international scientific journals (with mean impact factor surpassing 2) and has participated in over 120 presentations in national and international scientific meetings. Antonis is also an Associate Editor for the BMC Family Practice Journal and maintains teaching activities at Oxford University, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Studies.
He has been a member of the Society of Junior Doctors since 2009, now as its Development Director, and on the Society’s Board continuously since 2011.
